Reference: Major Mangat's Short Story, "Kala Sone"

In her reporting of the proceedings of the Kafla meeting in Toronto, Ms.
Balbir Sanghera has mentioned, "Whereas Bindra Jee has appreciated the use
of 'muhavrey', (he) objected on the use of the English words." As a matter
of fact it was other way round.
Mr. Mangat, while narrating the story, has very appropriately, logically and
frequently used the English words through out the text, e.g. Dry Sun (Sona)
Bath, Weight Lifting Area, Disc(an), Exercise, Gym, Tread-mill,
Migraine-headache,  Family-doctor, Step-walker, Engineer, Gold Medal,
Basket-ball, National-level, Scholar-ship etc. None of them looked out of
the place, rather they enhanced the flow of the narration.
But in the very first paragraph Mr. Managt used "Apna Pachhan Pattar." I had
pointed out that here "Apni ID" could have been appropriate. In spite of the
fact that Mr. Mangat has frequently used English words in narrating the
story (that excludes the conversational part), as mentioned above, he said,
"His aim has always to use Punjabi words only.
Leaving apart, this technicality, I must say that Mr. Mangat has touched a
very sensitive issue faced by our community in the West. My heartfelt
commendations for his efforts.
He was suggested that he should have thrown some light on the character of
the girl depicting her modern outlook. I think her going to Gym,
participating in the activities there among the male fraternity, is quite
obvious that she is very out going person.
