We be

Pritam Singh Grewal

you are a rare rose
‘mid myriad roses
of similar scent, hue alike

yet I prize you the most
you compel my eye
why?
I know not
nor need I

smile in silence and exist
enough it is
this smile is your ‘hi’
your silence the speech
your existence a  promise

are you aware
of my awareness of you?
I believe one-sided bond
can’t there be

 some day a finger fond
may gather you
or a wanton hand
may smother you

 but here and now we be
the moment is eternity

 I gaze you smile
you smile I gaze
let cause and effect
not interfere
reason must not enter
this realm of fancy.
