Dear Rai Sahib:
Sat
Sri Akal!
Once
in a while I read Mr. B. S. Dhillons articles
and find them useful. However, I feel that his open
letter deserves a few comments.
First
of all, I applaud Dhillons effort to write
about his views and your role in bringing different
view points to your readers. I must also be clear
that I have no axe to grind but to point to Mr
Dhillon that critics of his writings are not
necessarily his adversaries or enemies. Anyway, my
comments are a rare event.
I
think most people will agree with Mr. Dhillon that
the present Sikh leadership is deplorable. That is
probably also true of some other entities in Punjab
and elsewhere, but I need not loose the main thrust
of my comments. His other point about Madam Sonia
Gandhis leadership being commendable is also
justified. However, his comments are not really
favorable to Sikhs, Manmohan Singh and particularly
to General J. J. Singh. If I was General Singh, I
would be infuriated by any such comments. Both these
gentlemen appear to be obvious choices of this period.
To the extent Sonia has played a positive role in the
selection of Manmohan Singh, that is well and good.
But his selection is good for the entire country as a
whole and not just for the Sikhs. Therefore, to
conclude that the Sikhs are especially indebted to
her, is a kind of loose talk. In fact, neither she
nor Manmohan Singh seem to have played any really
active role in bringing to justice, the culprits of
the 1984 riots in Delhi. This talk of extreme
sacrifice for the Sikhs by Sonia Gandhi, is
distasteful.
Sincerely,
Gurdev
S. Ghangas
